Magic + Butterflies
I think butterflies are one of the few things we see as adults that still possess a bit of magic. They are beautiful, fragile and fleeting…hard to catch or even focus on for more than a few seconds. I remember when I was little, I was mesmerized by an unkept patch of land near our house. It looked like a magical meadow to me…we would sometimes drive by there in the afternoon and I would look out of the backseat window as the sun made that green grass glow in the most magical way. I realize that now as an adult, I would (ironically) probably be irritated by the fact that the land looked unkept. This saddens me. I long to regain the perspective I had as a child - where everything was beautiful in the exact state that it was…no judgment or preconceived notions. Just excitement and an appreciation of natural beauty. So that’s what the first painting in this kaleidoscope series is about…learning to re-see the beauty that is all around.
