The Art of Smoke + Flames: Painting Class
For this class we will have fun exploring ways to recreate the magic of a captivating flame or a wisp of smoke on canvas. We will discuss contrast and different methods for incorporating it into our art. We will also address opacity/opaqueness in painting, along with color mixing to achieve those results. There will be a dedicated area for still life set up, where we can create reference photos of lit candles, extinguished matches with smoke, the flame on birthday candles, etc. If you have a certain candle/candle holder you would like to include in your painting, feel free to bring it with you! Since we will be painting from our reference photos, please bring your fully charged phone or tablet to use. Handouts will be given so that you can take home the information we cover!

You will be able to choose whether you prefer creating one larger painting or 2 smaller ones
We will be painting with acrylic paints on stretched canvas
